Avery Strangeday is an American artist living and working in rural France. With roots in New Orleans and New York, she has travelled the world looking for things to combine with other things.

After graduating from Parsons The New School in 2012, she cofounded the East Williamsburg gallery and studio space Idiosyncrasy. In 2016, she moved to the Loire Valley to cofound La Briche, a music studio, art space, and communal living experiment built on the ruins of a 19th century industrial farm. She currently serves as the space’s artistic director and resident witch.

Her work spans genres and forms, from multimedia collage, ritually infused installations, and performance based costume design. She has designed costumes and stage sets for music videos, accompanied musical artists on tour as a stylist, and performed onstage with a Paris-based avant-guard cabaret troupe. Whatever form it takes, her work centers around surreal nostalgia, uncanny eclecticism, and tactile immediacy.
